A lot here works: it's more tonally assured than its predecessor and, bar certain eye-rolling climatic revelations, exploits the Potter nostalgia fruitfully.

... [M]alaise infects every aspect of the filmmaking.

There is just so much bad...but there are a few really funny, cute, good moments...do me a favor and end this franchise.

The film didn't work as well as I hoped it would going in ... While the film offers some intriguing scenarios ... there is a lot left lacking as a film to itself.

CRIMES is the kind of film where good performances end up getting swept up and away by the swirling maelstrom of the plot.

[L]ong and vaguely confusing and - most damningly - joyless ... if your movie about exploring the wonders of a massive wizarding world isn't fun, then what are we even doing here?

Sadly, if you are not a fan of Harry Potter, you will suffer throughout the inconsistent story. [Full Review in Spanish]

There's a mystery at the heart of this film, but it's not the identity of Ezra Miller's non-descript wizard, or the sparing use of Depp's Hitlerlarian sorcerer, rather why did Rowling think there was enough material to hang an entire second movie on?

[The sequel] can't quite capture the magic of the first and gets bogged down in trying to set up future instalments, rather than concentrating on its own plot and characters.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is a solid choice during the holiday season.

[It's] a torpid, dreary continuation of what's becoming the Dumbledore Reunion Tour, this is puff and smoke-fantasy without splendor, joy, fun, or much color at all.

[Rowling's] script here is the worst thing she's ever written -- incomprehensible if you haven't seen Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, saddling the actors with endless pages of indigestible exposition, an inert, lifeless set-up for the next movie.

It suffers a bit from being in the middle of a series and having to set up so many questions that don't get answered yet, but for every complaint I hear about this flick, I can think of something in it worth watching.

Hopefully, future installments will learn the lessons of The Last Jedi and start to reflect that by taking some risks, leaving this familiar storyline behind, killing some sacred cows, and trying something new.

The actors are talented, the director is tested, and the movie looks good, but the story falls apart.

The immense wonder of the Potterverse lingers but the bulk of Grindelwald feels like two movies haphazardly sewn together and the camera is far too interested in the wrong side of this creation.

Johnny Depp is so transparent and his interpretation of one of the supposed greatest villains in magical history is ordinary. [Full review in Spanish]

It's turning out to be a lot more interesting than some of the (leaden) previous films... because stylistically it seems to embrace the nineteenth-century novel without any kind of problem. [Full review in Spanish]

Over-plotted and under-edited, even die-hard Harry Potter fans may find themselves left behind as the story lumbers forward like a Whomping Willow... and an overwhelming desire to cast "Riddikulus" at the theater screen.

Yet another big film that looks just the same as a stack of others. Eternally overcast and dimly lit, there are no fresh idea here... Worse still, you can really feel the strain in the storytelling.
