[L]ong and vaguely confusing and - most damningly - joyless ... if your movie about exploring the wonders of a massive wizarding world isn't fun, then what are we even doing here?

The film didn't work as well as I hoped it would going in ... While the film offers some intriguing scenarios ... there is a lot left lacking as a film to itself.

Nothing seems to matter and yet everyone tells us how much is at stake.

This dreary snooze-fest puckers up to give the once-beloved franchise the Dementor's Kiss.

This movie is the cinematic equivalent to reading Rowling's tiresome retcon tweets: trite, laboured, unnecessary, and sometimes even offensive.

The new Harry Potter prequel feels more like a history lesson in our favorite magical scoundrels than anything new or entertaining, and still manages to have little plot or even the secretive mysteries that normally characterize these films

Razzle dazzle doesn't save this problematic foray into the pre-Potter world of witchcraft and wizardry.

Welcome to Fantastic Films And Where To Find Them, as somewhere in here are several compelling stories trying to get noticed, yet sinking under the weight of everything else. There are some magical delights (especially Jude Law's Dumbledore).

I'm not going to say it's the worst movie I've ever seen; but it's very possibly the worst prequel - the new low-point for expository, minutiae-obsessed, continuity-porn, anti-narrative in the "Cinematic Universe" era of blockbuster film making.

The Crimes of Grindelwald has the unique distinction of a being a movie that is absolutely overstuffed with characters and plot lines yet nothing actually happens.

While the initial film was the perfect foundation for the series, "Crimes" takes a step back with a story that plods along before a frustrating finale.

The beasts are once again fantastic, but the rest of the film is a dark, slow-moving prelude to war.

Sadly, Crimes of Grindelwald does not work on its own merits. Fans of the franchise will still find an enjoyable adventure in their beloved Wizarding World.

An unnecessarily complex and bloated film that even the most die-hard of Harry Potter fans will find difficulty enjoying.

The Crimes of Grindelwald has an utter train wreck for a plot, jumping from thread to thread ... That's a shame, because there is plenty of good about the film.

Ironically, for a film series that's about magic, this lost all sense of magic and whimsy.

There's little sense of what The Crimes of Grindelwald is about, and in trying to serve an ensemble while keeping an eye on the big picture, Rowling fails in crafting a narrative that is engaging, meaningful, or even just enjoyable.

What Grindewald doesn't offer is anything new, or any reason to care.

It should be Newt's story but they make it so much about all the side characters... it ends up being almost nobody's story.
